Fisherman Village Tour Marari

Morning at 6.30 AM (latest 7 AM), join a local village girl as your guide for a tour of the nearby fishing village to witness the early activities of a fishing community. Your mode of transport will be an auto rickshaw (Tuk Tuk). Life in the villages around Mararikulam is both fascinating and endearing—boats landing with fresh catch from the sea, workers bringing the catch from the boat to the shore, middlemen bargaining for their stock, women rushing and loading baskets with the freshest fish, and retailers heading to the harbour for their livelihood. Life all around is so active! Be in the midst of the crowd, watch them closely, and capture moments with your camera. If possible, feel free to interact with them. Meanwhile, you can also try a chai (tea) along with some local snacks like kozhukkatta, banana fritters, bonda, etc.

Your harbour visit is not just to observe but to experience as well. So, after spending about an hour at the harbour with your local guide, buy some fresh fish available there. Take it to a nearby local home, where the lady of the house will be happy to host you and cook what you’ve bought. Enjoy the art of cleaning and cooking, and also learn about the various spices used in the dishes. Do taste the freshly cooked fish along with appam, some vegetables, tea, and more.
